Hello, I am Christine Lewis and would like to thank everyone who voted me back into Council. I am honored to be a part of this great team. My first round at the Chief and Council was a busy one and the next 2 years are going to be even busier, I am looking forward to that. Learnt a lot about our First Nation and behind the scene business that Michipicoten is involved in during my first term as Councillor. I like that we are finally seeing the tangible evidence of the work that our Chief and Council has been doing over the past few years. Everything takes time and nothing ever seems to happen fast enough but every little step does count.
I will continue to work hard for our First Nation. A little about myself. I have raised 2 children on my own, lived on the First Nation since 2009 prior to that I was living in Winnipeg. Since being in Michipicoten, I have been involved with a few different ventures, mostly related to helping my community. I was a part of the Michipicoten First Nation Community Trust as a Board Member from 2010 to 2013. In 2013 I became the Trust Administrator for the MFNCT until 2018, then back to the Board from 2018 to 2020. I also was the Project officer for AETS (Anishinabek Employment and Training Services) where I recruited individuals for training opportunities. I was also involved with Supercom Industries as Training Advisor and Community Advisor. Up until recently, I was the Project Manager for the North Shore Mining Training Strategy, again recruiting, supporting clients with training opportunities and assisting with seeking employment. My new role is as an Employment Counsellor with the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre. I love this type of work and love seeing the difference training and employment opportunities can take a person on their journey.
