CHIEF

   CHAD EDGAR

I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to all those who have supported me over the past two years as a Councillor. To my family, my friends, and most importantly, to the Members of Michipicoten First Nation, Miigwetch. Your belief in me has shaped the leader I am today and continues to inspire me as I step into the role of Chief. Becoming Chief of Michipicoten First Nation is one of the greatest honours of my life. I carry this responsibility with humility, respect, and unwavering dedication to our people.

These past two years have been a profound journey of learning, growth, and connection. I’ve been humbled by the strength and encouragement I’ve received from so many of you. Standing up for our members and working toward the betterment of our Nation has been both heartwarming and fulfilling. It is a privilege to carry our teachings into everything I do, and I strive to walk this path with honesty, bravery, and truth, building strong, respectful relationships with our members, our business partners, and our neighbouring communities.

For the first few days after the Election, I have been overwhelmed, in the best way, by the love, kind words, and encouragement from across our Nation and beyond. The messages, phone calls, and support from Members, neighbouring Nations, and fellow Chiefs have been a powerful reminder that we are all connected. Our Nations stand together, and the work we do today is for the generations yet to come.

I want to offer a heartfelt Chi Miigwetch to our outgoing Chief and Council. Their dedication and leadership have paved the way forward and left a lasting impact on our community. We honour the path they’ve walked and the work they’ve done to bring us to this moment. Their legacy will not be forgotten.

To everyone who engaged in this election, who asked questions, sought answers, and stood together as a Nation, Miigwetch. The level of engagement and dedication shown by our members has been inspiring. So many meaningful conversations, connections, and friendships were formed throughout this process. It’s a testament to the strength of our community. We are not just witnessing change; we are creating it together.

Now, as your new Chief and Council, we will carry that fire forward. The voices of our people will guide our steps, and together, we will move in the direction our Nation has called for. No matter the outcome, we have moved forward as one. That is the strength of our people. That is how we continue to rise.

Chi Miigwetch to each and every one of you. I am deeply honoured to walk this path with you. We are MFN Strong.
